Living in Western SpringsThe Village of Western Springs is a quiet, affluent community known for its safe residential neighborhoods and tranquil, tree-lined streets.
Downtown, the picturesque shopping district and the old Water Tower stand as a symbol of its historic charm. It is an area that offers year-round recreation – from numerous golf courses and country clubs, to over 80 acres of parkland.
It is an area with the values and character traditional of a small town, yet surrounded by the exceptional convenience of a large city – only 15 miles southwest of Chicago, and a short Metra train ride to the Loop. With easy access to I-294, I-55 and other major highways, as well as area shopping at Oak Brook Center, Yorktown and downtown Hinsdale, Timber Trails is a wonderful community to live in.
Timber Trails Park
Nestled among the grand homes of the brand-new Timber Trails Neighborhood, this 5.1-acre park is Western Springs’ newest, and features a state-of-the-art jungle gym, a Little League baseball diamond, and a pavilion with water fountains and flush toilets. Bring checkers or chess pieces for an outdoor mind duel on one of the picnic tables!
One major highway traverses Western Springs; Ogden Avenue (U.S. Route 34) runs east-west along the northern border. U.S. 34 intersects with the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), on the western border. The main north-south street in the village is Wolf Road, designated as a Blue Star Memorial Highway.
The BNSF Railway runs through Western Springs. Daily commuter service on that line, connecting Aurora and Chicago, is provided by Metra. Amtrak also runs this subdivision with passenger trains such as the Southwest Chief and the Illinois Zephyr
Passenger airline service is available at O’Hare and Midway airports, both located in Chicago.
Commuter bus service is provided by Pace, the suburban bus division of the Regional Transportation Authority. Pace Route 669 Western Springs/Indian Head Park operates during weekday rush hours. The bus starts at Joliet Road and 64th Street and winds through Indian Head Park and Western Springs.
Public Elementary – District 106
LaGrange Highlands, is a combined elementary and junior high campus, LaGrange Highlands School, lies immediately adjacent to the community and serves about one quarter (1/4) of the Village residents.
Public High School – District 204
Lyons Township High School District, has two campuses. South High School is located in the Village and serves the freshman and sophomore classes. North High School serves the juniors and seniors and is located in nearby LaGrange.
Private – St. John of the Cross Roman Catholic
elementary school is the only private school located within the community. It serves students from the Village and surrounding communities.
Plaza shopping facilities are available at the Garden Market, and a picturesque downtown shopping district continues to grow with ample unmetered parking available. Burr Ridge Center, Oak Brook Center, and Yorktown malls are easily accessible.
